The Greater Buffalo Veterinary Emergency Clinic was created by local veterinarians in 1978 as an after-hours practice to function as an extension of their own clinics. They recognized that more pets in crisis could be saved or started on the road to recovery sooner if comprehensive emergency intervention was available overnight and on weekends and holidays when their offices were closed. As of June 2016, the VEC has grown to provide 24 hour veterinary emergency services throughout Erie and Niagara Counties, and sometimes beyond.
Our original location was on Main Street in Amherst. As the demand for pet emergency care expanded, we outgrew our space and knew that in order to treat and care for your pets we needed to design our own facility. We chose a convenient location between the Buffalo Airport and Transit Road in Cheektowaga. We hired consultants to design a new facility, supplying it with the most advanced diagnostic equipment and treatment options available. This also enabled us to expand our professional staff to even more quickly respond to patient needs.
The VEC is owned by over 35 area veterinarians and is affiliated with multiple local veterinary hospitals. However, we offer services to all animal hospitals and pet owners in need of emergency services.
We also simplified our name from Greater Buffalo Veterinary Services to Veterinary Emergency Clinic–much easier to remember, especially in an emergency.
