Jennifer Butera graduated from Medaille College in 2006 with a degree in Veterinary Technology and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Medaille college in 2016. She has extensive experience in veterinary medicine and administration including working at Summer Street Cat Clinic, Cleveland Biolabs, the University at Buffalo, and Medaille College. She has participated in several international Veterinary Medicine trips with World Vets, which provides medical care for animals globally. She has a 7 year old son (Adrian), two cats (Leo and Sylvio), two fish, and a leopard gecko (Kovu). Her hobbies include traveling and running.
Dr. Tribetta Spires was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. She attended Mississippi State University for her undergraduate degree in Animal and Dairy Science. She continued on to earn her DVM in 2012, also from Mississippi State. She is the oldest of three daughters and has been in Buffalo for over four years now with her boyfriend, ferrets, and cats. Her professional interests include surgery, ultrasonography, and feline medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Spires enjoys playing board/card games with friends, video games, and relaxing at home.
Dr. Sarah Poltis grew up in Buffalo and attended Canisius College for undergraduate studies. She then attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with her DVM in 2010. Dr. Poltis has prior experience in private practice since graduating. After completing many relief shifts at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic, she accepted a full time position in 2014. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, exotics, and some aspects of business management. During her time off, Dr. Poltis enjoys spending time camping, playing board games and photography. She has a dog named Dottie and two more that are shared with her family (Pickles & Jackson).
Dr. Gritzmacher was raised in Lockport, New York. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Florida A&M University. She then went on to pursue veterinary medicine and in 1999, graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. After that, she received her Master’s degree in Animal Science, also from ISU. To start her veterinary career, she went back to where she grew up, Lockport, NY for three and a half years. For about 2 of those years, Dr. Gritzmacher did relief work for the VEC, which is where she gained a love and passion for emergency medicine. Then in 2005 she joined the VEC team. Dr. Gritzmacher has special interest in helping co-workers and friends create household budgets, create plans for debt management, and set goals for personal growth. She also enjoys riding her bicycle, power walking, practicing sign language, and scrapbooking. She likes finding a good bargain and enjoys hosting parties for specialty products. Her professional interests include emergency medicine and blood transfusion medicine.
Dr. Jim Tudini attended SUNY at Buffalo for his undergraduate degree in Biology prior to attending St. George’s University for his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He is a member of the AVMA, NYSVMS, and WNYVMA. Dr. Tudini’s professional interests include surgery (especially orthopedics), pain management, and dentistry. He is a third generation Buffalonian and enjoys golfing, geocaching, small scale farming, and spending time with his family. He has a dog named Suzie and a cat named Hefner.
Dr. Stephanie Wishko graduated from the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and has been practicing small animal medicine in Western New York sine then. She is originally from Connecticut and relocated here after veterinary school. Dr. Wishko lives in Lockport with 2 dogs, Camden and Clark Kent, 2 cats, Calhoun and Cannon, and a horse, Graeme. Her hobbies include, horseback riding, hiking and cooking.
Dr. Tierney was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. While completing her bachelor’s degree in physical anthropology at the University at Buffalo, she practiced as a Licensed Veterinary Technician (predominantly in emergency and critical care) locally for 13 years before pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian. She went on to earn her veterinary degree from Ross University. Prior to joining the Veterinary Emergency Clinic in March 2014, she practiced in the area as a general practitioner for 7 years. Emergency medicine has always been a passion of hers, and she knew one day she would once again embrace that area of interest. Her goal is to join together with her colleagues and staff to practice progressive medicine, while providing compassionate patient care for those animals in need. Her interests outside of practice include spending time with her four cats and two dogs. Her other interests include golfing, horseback riding, hiking, skiing, and spending time with friends.
Dr. O’Toole began working at VEC as a veterinary assistant in 2005 while attending Medaille College for AS and BS degrees in Veterinary Technology. While working as a veterinary technician, Dr. O’Toole earned a B.S. degree in Biology. She then continued her veterinary education by attending St. George’s University and graduating with her DVM in 2013. She now conducts interviews for possible future St. George’s students. She enjoys spending her spare time with her dog, five cats, one rabbits, chinchilla, and nephews. She also takes ballet classes and follows the Atlanta Braves, Buffalo Bills, and Buffalo Sabres.
Wendy is a 1994 graduate of Medaille College’s Vet Tech program. Since her graduation, it has been her goal to make veterinary visits as stress and fear free as possible. She is happily married and has two children. Wendy also shares her home with two dogs and three cats. Outside of work, Wendy enjoys spending time with her family in the southern tier.
Sarah became a veterinary technician after graduated from Medaille College in 2008. She has been with VEC since February 2016. Sarah loves spending time with her new husband, Allen; her husky mix, Brom; two calico cats, Paris and London; and two bearded dragons. In her spare time she enjoys reading, camping, bonfires, and fall weather.
Nicole worked as an assistant at VEC while attending Medaille College, but after graduating with an AS degree in 2015, Nicole began working with us as a Veterinary Technician. She also works as a Vet Tech at a general practice, but really enjoys working in emergency medicine. She has a chocolate lab named Harley who loves to cuddle and play fetch. Nicole enjoys painting, kayaking, playing volleyball, and spending time with her family and boyfriend and would eventually like to explore and travel around the world.
Michele is a recent graduate of Medaille College’s Veterinary Technology Program. She is working on completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with the hope of becoming a Veterinarian, and eventually specializing in surgery. Michele has a 2 year old beagle named Charlie. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and being outside when the weather is nice. Michele also likes kayaking and fishing whenever she gets the chance.
Meghan is a Medaille College Veterinary Technology graduate and also holds degrees in Biology and Chemistry from SUNY Brockport. Her professional interest lies in emergency medicine and critical care. In her free time, she enjoys reading and showing her Newfoundland dogs. She has five dogs and three cats and also rescues and rehabilitates English mastiffs.
Laurence is a 2012 graduated of Medaille College and started his career in exotic animal medicine before to joining us at VEC. He has two dogs, Bella and Coco, and grew up with a St. Bernard who helped him find his interest in veterinary medicine. Outside of work, Laurence enjoys online gaming and listening to and creating music.
Keri has been a Veterinary Technician since 1996 when she graduated from Medaille College with a degree in Veterinary Technology and has been at VEC since 2006. Keri has a special interest in ultrasonography and recently complete a course in basic animal abdominal ultrasound. She enjoys traveling, scrapbooking, and volunteering in the community with her two daughters. Keri shares her home with two cats, a golden retriever name Georgia Peach, and a teacup Yorkie named Eden.
Katie graduated from SUNY Delhi with a degree in Veterinary Technology and has worked in many different aspects of veterinary medicine since. She found her passion in emergency medicine and after extensive training, became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Emergency & Critical Care in 2001. Along with working at VEC, she is a full time Vet Tech and adjunct instructor at Medaille College where she teaches in the Veterinary Technology program. She is also a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
Kate began working at VEC as an assistant in 2007 while attending Medaille College. She graduated from Medaille with an AS degree in Veterinary Technology in 2007 followed by a BS degree in Biology in 2010. Her primary interests include emergency medicine, surgery, radiology, and computed tomography. She enjoys spending her spare time with her two German shepherds and in the barn with her quarter horse cross, Tecumseh.
Juliet holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from The Pratt Institute along with an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology from SUNY Delhi. Juliet enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but her main interests lie in shelter and emergency medicine. She is a certified yoga instructor, avid gardener, houseplant enthusiast, and knitter. She is the proud mom of two rescue pit bulls, Nell and Nadi, and one cat.
Josh holds degrees in Veterinary Technology, Radiology Technology, and recently completed an Echocardiography program. His professional interests including diagnostic imaging and teaching which he is able to combine as a laboratory assistant at Medaille College. Josh has two dogs, two birds, and shares his home with his wife and three kids. In his free time, Josh enjoys backpacking, hiking, fishing, and cooking.
Jessica graduated from Medaille College in 1996 with an AS in Veterinary Technology and has worked at a technician since. She has a special interest in emergency medicine, ophthalmology, anesthesia, and inventory management. Jess has two dogs, Benny (a lab) and Zoe (a beagle), and three cats. Jess enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul, and her two kids, Alex and Amanda. When Jess is not at VEC or spending time with her family, she likes to go camping and read.
Colleen is VEC’s newest technician with many years of experience in the field. She was born and raised in Boston, NY. Colleen graduated from Medaille College in 2002 and has worked in several small animal practices. She is an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. Colleen lives in Blasdell with her 2 rescues: a Cur mix named Gia and a Chihuahua mix named Munk. In her free time, Colleen enjoys reading, cooking, gardening, spending time with friends, attending concerts, and going to see movies.
Cheryl is a SUNY Delhi graduate and has been a Licensed Veterinary Technician for many years. When Cheryl is not at VEC, she enjoys horses and coordinating horse shows/educational events as a Niagara County 4-H leader. She is a member of the Western New York Quarter Horse Club and is passionate about providing the best care possible for all animals.
Chelsea graduated from Medaille College with an AS degree in Veterinary Technology in 2016. She worked as an Assistant at VEC while finishing up her Vet Tech degree and is now one of our Veterinary Technicians. When not at VEC, Chelsea enjoys reading, cooking, exercising, drawing, biking, and fishing. She enjoys makeup and is a huge Disney fan.
Bryan graduated from Medaille College in 1999 with an AS in Veterinary Technology and has worked in many specialty practices since becoming a licensed veterinary technician. He also spent time in Panama as a volunteer through the Peace Corps. During his free time, he enjoys canoeing/kayaking, camping, gardening, cooking, and maple sugaring. He has two dogs, Willow the one eyed border collie and Darwin, a chihuahua. Brian also has three cats named Porter, Purrscilla, and Marley.
Amanda has been a receptionist at VEC since 2004 and recently became the assistant to the Office Manager. She enjoys spending time with her cat, Dingus, and her eight younger siblings. She also has two dogs, Sophie and Miss Chif. In her spare time, Amanda likes to read romance and science fiction novels, watch movies, playing games with her family, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.
Shawn Marie is currently a student at the University at Buffalo where she is working towards her Bachelor’s in Medicinal Chemistry. In the future, she would like to obtain a Master’s in Chemistry and work in pharmaceutical research involving animals. She started as a veterinary assistant a year ago and joined the VEC team about 6 months ago. Her interests lie in exotics and marine life which she first discovered while living in Fort Myers, Florida last year. Shawn Marie spends a lot of time with her family, her German Shepherd, Rocky, and her chinchilla, Tink. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and crafting; including candle making and scrapbooking.
Lauren has a degree in Spanish, an animal groomer certificate, and is working towards another degree in Dental Hygiene. She lives with her boyfriend, two cats, and their newly adopted dog, Frannie. Lauren likes to garden, swim, and groom dogs and would eventually like to become a rehabilitator and beekeeper. After graduating from high school early, Lauren moved to Hawaii, but would like to return someday for a vacation.
Dominique has been involved in animals her whole life and currently attends Medaille College for Veterinary Technology. Prior to joining us at VEC, Dominique worked at a general practice for two years. During her free time, Dominique likes to cheerlead and spend time with her friends and family. She has a dog named Bailey, a cat named Bandit, and a rat named Daisy. Dominique looks forward to finishing vet tech school so she can follow her dreams and help animals.
Courtney graduated from SUNY Buffalo State in 2016 with a BS in Biology and is currently working on another BS in Forensic Chemistry. She would eventually like to fulfill her lifelong goal of becoming a veterinarian. When Courtney is not at VEC, she enjoys skiing, playing volleyball, and watching NCIS. She has two dogs, Jaxx and Holly, and two cats, Slinky and Fat Cat Chloe.
Alex is a current student at University at Buffalo working towards a BA in Biology. She has a special interest in shelter medicine which stems from her volunteer work with Pets Alive WNY and the Erie County SPCA. She has successfully fostered over 200 cats and kittens since 2014. She has two cats of her own, Muffin and Pirate. Alex enjoys skiing and reading when she is not working at VEC or volunteering.
Michelle is our newest receptionist. She is an animal lover and describes herself as having a tenacious attitude. She is a Mother of two gorgeous girls (Melissa and Katerina), 3 cats (Zack, Lucky, and Salem), and puppy (Max-Flash). Michelle is also the Wife of a wonderful Husband. She obtained her Medical Office Assistant Certificate from Erie 1 Boces in February of 2017. Michelle’s future plans are to continue to work for the Veterinary Emergency Clinic as a receptionist and gain more experience working with animals.
Mike has been a receptionist at VEC for many years and holds a degree in Education from Buffalo State College. His is the proud father of two kids and enjoys spending as much time with them as possible. Mike has two cats, one dog, and two hermit crabs.
Prior to starting at VEC 11 years ago, MaryJo attended the American Institute for Paralegal Studies at Buffalo State College. Since joining the veterinary field, she has developed an interested in canine nutrition and behavior. She currently does agility with her pit bull, Zoey, and enjoys knitting, reading, and taking Zumba classes.
Lindsay has worked at VEC for almost four years, but has worked in the veterinary industry for 13 years. While living in North Carolina, Lindsay worked as a veterinary technician. She is married, has two boys, two cats, and two dogs. In her spare time, Lindsay sews and embroiders for her Etsy business.
Kate has been a receptionist with VEC for about a year and a half. She loves working with us and we are lucky to have her! Kate also spent many years as a Relief Zookeeper with the Buffalo Zoo. There she worked in the Children’s Zoo, with Small Mammals, Primates, Gorillas, and Large Cats. Kate was fortunate enough to be on the team to raise the first baby Gorilla with our local Zoo. Years later she went on to work at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. She started on the Savannah team with the white rhino and other hoofstock, lions, and hyenas. Kate’s love of birds lead her to transfer to the Tree of Life team. Here she was able to work and train diverse stork species, as well as, Asian Small Clawed Otters, Kangaroos, and Cotton-Top Tamarins. Strong family bonds have brought Kate back to beautiful WNY. Here she enjoys birding, hiking and spending as much time as possible with family on Lake Ontario. She has 3 fun and crazy cats: Reilly, Gingersnap, and Aladdin. Kate also has 5 very busy parakeets.
Debbie has been at VEC for about four years now. She also works at another local veterinary clinic where she has been for 37 years. Her love for animals carried over after running a pet sitting service for 20 years. Debbie has three cats: Squirt who is 16 years old, Bumble who is 4 years old, and Chip, who Debbie recently adopted with stage 2 kidney disease. In her spare time, Debbie enjoys traveling.
